February 10, 2012: We are very upset to announce that Sherri’s Café 101 is no longer open for business. We were recently shut down by the City of Providence Board of Licenses due to the wrong form being filed at the Division of Tax. There was no money owed, it was just the wrong form. Instead of working with a hard working business owner to stay open, the Board of Licenses worked very hard to make sure that our business was shut down. They actually went out of their way to make sure it closed.

This issue isn’t only affecting the owner, it is affecting her employees, her vendors, and ultimately the city because they will be missing out on taxes!
Text Box: Text Box: ABOUT US: Cheryl (Sherri) Portella started in the foodservice industry in 1994, when she was hired at Café La France, next to the Providence Performing Arts Center. In May 1997, Sherri bought that franchise location and successfully ran it until July 2001, when she sold it to pursue other opportunities.
Shortly after selling her Café La France franchise, she opened Sherri’s Breakfast and Lunch on Winter Street in Providence, and most recently owned Carmichael’s Café on Richmond Street and Sherri’s Café 101 in Providence. Sherri and her crew have a passion for food and are excited to be able to offer the freshest coffee and beverages, pastries, soups, salads & sandwiches, all with a smile!

Sherri’s daughter Jen recently left Dave’s Gift Baskets & Floral in East Greenwich to help her mother run Sherri’s Café 101, but has worked alongside her mother at all of her cafes and restaurants.
Both Nicole and Jessica have worked for Sherri since 2008 at Carmichael’s Café and came to work for us again at Sherri’s Café 101 in 2010.
Melissa and Alonda are both new additions to Sherri’s, and we are happy to have them!
Come in and introduce yourself! We’re always happy to meet new people!
